On Sunday, I joined WGN's Political Report with Paul Lisnek, where I gave my reaction to Donald Trump being found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records. As I have long said, no one is above the law, not even a former president.

I also talked about my work to secure funding to help provide ballistic vests for Chicago police and air-breathing equipment for our firefighters. Our first-responders must be equipped with every tool possible to effectively do their jobs and stay safe.

This week, I signed a discharge petition in support of the Right to Contraception Act, H.R. 4121. This bill is the only legislation that codifies the fundamental right to access and provide contraception. Should the discharge petition reach 218 signatures, it would force leadership to bring this bill to the floor for a vote and put conservatives on record regarding the right to birth control.  As a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, I'm deeply alarmed by the number of attacks on reproductive rights taking place around the country. Congress must act now to protect access to contraception at the federal level.

Earlier this week, I was proud to re-introduce the Transparency in Government Act. In my role as co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Transparency Caucus, I believe we must do more to restore the public’s faith in our institutions and fortify our democracy. This legislation seeks to do just that by increasing access, accountability, and transparency in every branch of the federal government. The Transparency in Government Act would expand financial disclosure requirements for both lawmakers and lobbyists; modernize how the public accesses federal spending information; and improve judicial transparency. I'm proud to have led this legislation for so long and to have done so on a bipartisan basis.
