Friend, Ten years ago, Chinese spies were caught digging up seeds out of the ground in Dysart to reverse engineer in China. Since then, Communist China has been buying up our farmland land, working to dominate the food supply chain, and stealing our agriculture technology innovation – all while distorting the market with unfair trade practices. The House Farm Bill includes several provisions to protect our food and ag supply chains from the influence of foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party. It includes language from my AFIDA Improvement Act to improve tracking of foreign ag land purchases. This will help us prevent foreign adversaries from covertly buying our farm land and protect American agriculture. It also includes language from my Securing American Agriculture Act, legislation that will help secure our food supply chain against threats of China and ensure we aren't relying on Communist China for ag inputs. I will continue working to protect our food security and national security from Communist China. Watch my Fox News interview on this important issue here and read on for more information about my work for Iowans! Best, MAPDA's Humanitarian of the Year Award I was honored to receive Mothers Against Prescription Drug abuse (MAPDA)’s Humanitarian of the Year award for my work to fight the opioid epidemic. From providing resources for treatment and prevention to combating drug cartels trafficking these drugs into our communities, I will continue working to end this scourge and save lives. Remembering D-Day Yesterday marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day. On June 6, 1944, American and Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, marking the ultimate turning point in the fight against Nazi Germany during World War II. The D-Day invasion was the most significant naval, air, and land operation in history, paving the way for victory for the free world and the defeat of evil. We will never forget the heroism shown by our troops that day and all those in the Greatest Generation whose courage and sacrifice ensured victory in one of the worst periods in history. Our Iowa drivers will have access to E15 all summer thanks to an emergency waiver that I helped to secure. That means more affordable fuel options out there for Iowans! Iowa biofuels should be front and center in an all-of-the-above energy strategy. I will continue to work to expand access to biofuels at the pump making E15 permanently available your route. Watch my video message here. NAMIC It was great to meet with National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) this week! We discussed their work to ensure Iowans are protected in the face of natural disasters and other emergencies. The Propane Council Thanks to the Propane Council for stopping by to discuss safe and efficient energy policies that keep costs low for Iowa farmers and families. We need an all-of-the-above energy strategy for reliable and affordable energy options. Iowa Health Care Association Expanding access to quality health care for rural communities is a top priority for me. I sat down with the Iowa Health Care Association to discuss home health care services and how we can improve care for Iowans. Food Bank of Iowa Food Bank of Iowa distributes over 2 million pounds of food to Iowans every month. It was great meeting with one of their team members to discuss the importance of insuring no Iowan goes hungry. National Grain and Feed Association I enjoyed sitting down with the National Grain and Feed Association to discuss ways we can foster new market opportunities for Iowa farmers and producers! Investments in IA-02: Securing Funding for Dubuque Flood Mitigation As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have secured targeted federal investments for communities in Iowa. I am excited to highlight the $8,000,000 I helped secure for Dubuque Flood Mitigation Gates and Pumps. This funding will support the City of Dubuque’s disaster mitigation efforts, which are crucial to the Mississippi River community’s safety and security. This project will work in tandem with the recently completed Bee Branch Creek Restoration and Culverts Projects to prevent flood damage to the city’s most at-risk neighborhoods and businesses. Cutting wasteful spending while bringing taxpayer dollars back to Iowa will always be a top priority for me.
