John,

Today marks the start of Wear Orange Weekend 2024. Across the country, activists are wearing orange to honor survivors and build community among those working to end gun violence.

It all started in 2013, when 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Her grieving friends decided to commemorate Hadiya by wearing orange, the same color worn by hunters to protect themselves. Now, Wear Orange is observed every June by thousands of gun safety activists across the nation.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. But it doesn’t have to be this way. By raising our voices and fighting for comprehensive legislation to address this issue, we can curb the epidemic of senseless shootings that wreaks havoc on our communities.

Lucy McBath is proud to stand with the Wear Orange community in their efforts to bring attention to gun violence prevention. She recognizes the importance of not staying silent, and will continue fighting for action in the halls of Congress.
