It’s Pride Month! A time to simultaneously roll our eyes at corporate pride campaigns and fume at the corporations that cave to right-wing ghouls and don't celebrate pride. A time to express yourself and romp around in hideous rainbow-colored merchandise.
But the reality is that not all LGBTQ+ people have access to safe, inclusive spaces in person, and this has become even more pronounced with Republicans’ relentless anti-LGBTQ+ politics and legislation across the country — which makes having access to safe, inclusive spaces online all the more important!
We recently published a new report with our friends at LGBT Tech, aptly titled ctrl+alt+lgbt, which examines the way LGBTQ+ adults access and utilize digital tools, devices, and spaces. We find that a substantial majority of LGBTQ+ adults utilize the internet for various essential services, such as finding LGBTQ+-friendly health care providers, and that online spaces have had a profound impact on the identity and self-expression of many LGBTQ+ adults.
For instance, online spaces are some of the places where LGBTQ+ adults are most likely to be open about their sexual orientation and gender identity, and this is especially true for transgender adults.
This is not to say that it’s all sunshine and rainbows on the World Wide Web… unfortunately, many LGBTQ+ adults continue to experience misinformation, hate, and harassment in online spaces. This month and every month, it’s on all of us to foster inclusion and to confront anti-LGBTQ+ misinformation and harassment when we see it.

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
The felonious trump
Well, it happened! Donald J. Trump was convicted for his crimes. After a trial that lasted a little more than a month, a New York jury convicted the 45th President of the United States on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. We think he may finally be tired of winning!
Our first post-conviction survey finds that a majority of voters (56%), including 60% of swing voters, approve of the jury finding Trump guilty on all 34 counts.
And despite Trump repeatedly claiming the case against him was a "witch-hunt" and the verdict was “rigged,” a majority of voters (53%) say the trial was fair, while 39% say it was rigged.
Sorry, Don, the mudslinging won’t work this time! Next time, maybe don’t fake records to conceal your hush money payments for your extramarital affairs. We look forward to seeing you in court (hopefully asap!!!!) for your next set of crimes, the ones where you incited an insurrection on the U.S. Capitol and tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election.

“Woke” is putting voters to sleep
Shockingly, being weird and racist doesn’t seem to be the political winner that Republicans thought it would be. Despite conservatives from Ron DeSantis (ew) to Vivek Rawaswamy (ew) to Elon Musk (ew) attempting to cast Joe Biden and the Democrats as infected with the “woke mind virus,” it turns out that their obsession with “wokeness” is pretty far out of line with public opinion.
Our new polling finds that 60% of Independents say they either do not care if Biden is woke or they don’t know what the term means. We can’t help but laugh.
Republicans’ “anti-woke” messaging is out of step with how likely voters generally feel about social justice and equity. If you just watch Fox News all day long or live under Ron DeSantis’ reign of whininess in Florida, you’d never know that a majority of voters say that “it is better for everyone when we focus on studying and addressing social injustices” and that “discussing topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion brings together people of different identities.”
Stop trying to make “woke” happen, it’s not going to happen!
