I told my mom I wanted to reach out today because it’s Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Like so many people my age, this is an issue that hits really close to home.
I’ll never forget when my school went into lockdown. There were reports of a person with a gun on school property, and I didn’t know what was going to happen. I remember calling my mom and feeling absolutely terrified.
I was lucky that day. But for too many kids in schools, movie theaters, shopping malls, bowling alleys, and churches, that hasn’t been the case.
I know one of my mom’s top priorities in Congress will be passing common-sense gun safety laws; laws that create universal background checks, end the gun show loophole, ban assault weapons, and keep us safer in our communities.
I’m so proud to have a mom running to make a better Arizona. This is an incredibly competitive district — but she knows it’s worth the fight.
