We’re looking forward to having you at Climate Conversations on the National Mall on June 8th as part of CCL’s Summer Conference. Thanks for your attention to these important details which will best prepare you for the event: TIMING Climate Conversations will be from 2 - 4 p.m. (for DC chapter volunteers, 12 - 2pm) on Saturday June 8th. Depending on when you plan to arrive to D.C., you are welcome to come to the Omni Shoreham Hotel first, check in at the registration desk and get your conference materials. You can attend CCL’s Monthly Call watch party at 1 p.m. at the hotel, then you can head to Climate Conversations after that concludes. Or, you could head straight to Climate Conversations on the Mall for 2 p.m. if that works better for your travel plans. You will be responsible for making your way over to the National Mall on your own. Please note, there will not be a place to store any luggage or extra belongings at the site. LOCATION We will have a “Basecamp” setup in the NW quadrant of the Washington Monument grounds (the green circle in the map below). You could put 1600 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20004 into GPS, it should get you close to the area. Look for a tent, table, and some CCL banners, then check in with the CCL Regional Directors at the table to get started!
If you decide to take a taxi or rideshare from the Omni, depending on traffic could take anywhere from 9-30 minutes. Metro Directions from the Omni Shoreham Hotel: About 30 min metro ride + ~15 min walk. This Metro Trip Planner might be helpful. Take Red line (Woodley Park station is close to the Omni) toward Fort Totten Transfer to Orange line at Metro Center Take Orange line toward New Carrollton, get off at Federal Triangle station (this is closest station to our site) Exit Federal Triangle station and make a right (heading south) on 12th street Make a right (heading west) onto Constitution Ave We will be in the NW corner of the Washington Monument grounds (close the intersection of Constitution Ave and 17th St NW) (should be about 15 min walk from Federal Triangle to the location) GETTING PREPARED FOR CLIMATE CONVERSATIONS This will not be a typical CCL tabling event. We will have a “Basecamp” with a tent, table and some materials, but we’re asking volunteers to spread out and talk with people on the Washington Monument grounds. We will provide stickers and small handouts you can use while talking with folks. We encourage you to track how many conversations you have and report back to “Basecamp”. We’re building on the momentum from our April Climate Conversations goal, and using our Heart, Head, and Hands in conversations. You can check out these resources if you need a refresher, or watch this training. This event is not for the faint of heart! It will be outside in the D.C. heat and humidity, mostly standing and walking around in the sun. Be sure to stay hydrated, and take breaks when you need it (at our Basecamp in the shade, and we’ll have some chairs if you need a break). There are water fountains at the Washington Monument and nearby at the WWII Memorial as well. WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
We’ll see you Saturday! Please email conference.inbox@ |
