For far too long, Live Nation and Ticketmaster have got away with bullying artists, ripping off venues, and price-gouging customers.
After years of buying up smaller companies, only Live Nation and Ticketmaster were left. In 2009, they decided to merge, creating a monopoly over the live events industry.
The Department of Justice saw the problem, but instead of blocking the merger outright, it put guardrails in place with a consent decree that prohibited the company from forcing venues to use its ticketing services. After the deal was finalized, Ticketmaster jumped those guardrails, expanding both its power and its profits.
But now, the Department of Justice and a group of state Attorneys General have finally filed a much-anticipated antitrust suit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
John, it’s time that we break up the Live Nation and Ticketmaster monopoly that’s ripping everybody off.
