Road Closed Map
Portion of Hwy. 13 Closed

Due to a slope failure and emergency repairs, Hwy. 13 between Wachtler Avenue and Sylvandale Road is closed until the evening of August 3.

The Mendota Heights Police Department is preparing for an increase in traffic along Wachtler Avenue and Wentworth Drive, which will include the use of a speed camera.

Please remember, it is unlawful to drive over, through, or around any barricade, fence, or obstruction erected for the purpose of preventing traffic from passing over a portion of a highway closed to public travel.

NTU
Night to Unite 2024

Each year on the first Tuesday night in August, the City of Mendota Heights hosts Night to Unite, a summer evening dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the commitment to a safe community.

For residents, this is an opportunity to put together a neighborhood celebration, turn on the front porch lights, gather with neighbors and friends, get to know one another, catch up on things, play some games with the kids, enjoy a few hot-off-the-grill favorites and build a sense of community.

*Night to Unite 2024 is Tuesday, Aug. 6.*

Neighborhood representatives are asked to register their Night to Unite events by July 22, so members of the Police, Fire and Ambulance service can stop by to visit.

Register your neighborhood event today!

*Officer Scott Patrick Memorial 5K*

On a beautiful day in June, 332 runners gathered in Mendota Heights for the Officer Scott Patrick Memorial 5K; dozens of others came to volunteer and remember a fallen friend. Participants in this year’s event raised $17,800 for Special Olympics; adding to more than $220,000 raised at the event over the past 19 years.

The race is named in honor of Mendota Heights Police Officer Patrick who was killed in the line of duty on July 30, 2014. Thanks to all of the residents and businesses who made race day a great success!

Dame's Rocket
Weed of the Month: Dame's Rocket

Dame’s Rocket is a showy, 3-4’ tall perennial or biennial with many clusters of purple, pink, and sometimes white blooms that bloom in the spring and early summer. Dame’s Rocket has alternate, lanceolate, toothed leaves. It is often spotted in ditches and open areas. It may sometimes be thought of as a native, and may be sold as or labeled as a wildflower in wildflower mixes, but it is not native to Minnesota and spreads quite aggressively by prolific seeding. It invades mesic forests and woodland edges.

To prevent the spread of this invasive:

* Dame’s Rocket has shallow taproots that can be hand-pulled easily.
* The best control is to remove small populations before they have a chance to spread.
* Removal before the plant goes to seed also helps to control populations.
* Large populations can be treated with a herbicide in the fall when native plants have gone dormant, but the rosettes of Dame’s Rocket are still green. Always follow manufacturer directions and only apply in favorable conditions (calm winds, with precipitation not forecasted).
