Dear  SPUC supporter,

A General Election has been called for 4 July 2024.

The threat of abortion being decriminalised was narrowly averted in this Parliament, when the calling of the General Election put an end to the Criminal Justice Bill, and, with it, the extreme abortion amendments. But whoever wins the election, these proposals are sure to return.

We also expect a big push to legalise assisted suicide.

It is therefore vital that pro-life people use their vote to elect pro-life MPs. SPUC has always encouraged supporters to find out the voting record and voting intentions of individual parliamentary candidates in your constituency. We then make this information available to you, to help you decide who to vote for.

Email your candidates with SPUC’s webtool!

This year, we are making this easier than ever before. We are very excited to launch our new webtool, that enables you to email all the candidates in your constituency. You just enter your postcode to find out who your candidates are, and we’ve provided a template email for you to send to them.

Contact your candidates
The email asks two questions:

QUESTION 1: Would you vote to support or oppose decriminalising abortion, i.e., legalising abortion on demand and up to birth?

QUESTION 2: Would you vote to support or oppose any move to legalise assisted suicide?

We will put up the answers to these questions on the website as we get them back. We rely on you, our supporters on the ground, to ask your candidates these questions! Please send any answers back to
[email protected]. If your previous MP is standing again, the page also shows their voting record on life issues.

Or interview your candidates in person

Arranging a face-to-face interview with your candidates is an even more impactful way to get answers to these questions. Our briefing MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD AND YOUR VOTE COUNT: Defend human life in the 2024 General Election lays out how to do this. It also provides a short briefing on both abortion decriminalisation and assisted suicide.

When interviewing your candidates, please use the form we provide, SPUC CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE General Election 4 July 2024. Please use a separate sheet for each candidate you interview. You can download it from our website, or order paper copies.

Whether you do it by email or in person interviews, contacting your candidates is vital to find out their voting intentions and to share that information with others.

This has been a busy year, with relentless campaigning on the Criminal Justice Bill, and now a sudden pivot to General Election campaigning. Please do all you can to promote life during this short election period. Contacting your candidates is the key thing now, but we will be updating you with more campaign actions as the weeks go on!

With best wishes.
