Proud to Care London

London boroughs are doing all they can to make sure older and vulnerable Londoners are kept safe and supported at this difficult time.

Proud to Care London ( [link removed] ) ( [link removed] ) is a recruitment site for the care sector that will link people with crucial jobs in care, to help London tackle Covid-19, and provide much needed care and support to people in our communities.

Rough sleeper progress

More than 1,000 homeless Londoners are now self-isolating in hotels and other safe locations across the capital, thanks to the London boroughs and charity partners working with the Mayor’s rough sleeping team.

The initiative, launched just three weeks ago, involves working with hotel chains to block-book rooms, allowing highly vulnerable rough sleepers to follow government self-isolation guidelines. The InterContinental Hotel Group, Travelodge, Best Western and Accor Group have all taken part.

Councillor Darren Rodwell, London Councils’ Executive Member for Housing & Planning, said: “Boroughs are doing all we can to get rough sleepers off the streets and into suitable accommodation.

"This is a massive challenge in London, where we face both the highest number of coronavirus cases and the highest levels of homelessness in the country, and this crucial work remains a top priority.”

Taxicard usage changes to better support vulnerable Londoners

London Councils has made a number of operational changes to the Taxicard scheme to better support Taxicard members during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Taxicard members can now use Taxicard to book drivers to pick up and deliver essential supplies. The scheme has also been extended to allow friends and family to use the member's Taxicard for the same purpose.

Domestic Abuse support

The government's new public awareness campaign #YouAreNotAlone ( [link removed] ), aims to reassure those affected by domestic abuse that support services remain available during the lockdown. Alongside the campaign, the Home Office is working with charities and the Domestic Abuse Commissioner to provide an additional £2 million to bolster domestic abuse helplines and online support.

A range of organisations tackling sexual and domestic violence across the capital are supported through the pan-London Grants programme. All 32 London boroughs and the City of London contribute to the programme, which is run on their behalf by London Councils.
