At the heart of ProPublica’s mission is the steadfast faith in the power of investigative reporting to spur change and right wrongs. And it does. Our stories have prompted:

A national conversation about ethics in the Supreme Court (as well as the adoption of new code of conduct for the justices, a first in history).
A $100 million fund for patients of a predatory OB-GYN at Columbia University’s medical center.
The Federal Trade Commission to order the maker of TurboTax to cease “deceptive” advertising, after an investigation following ProPublica’s long-running series on for-profit tax preparation companies.
A new Environmental Protection Agency rule that will slash cancer-causing emissions by sterilization facilities, after a 2021 investigation by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune revealed the EPA’s yearslong failure to inform communities of the risks they faced from cancer-causing ethylene oxide emissions.

Our work is funded by a community of people who believe that an independent press is critical to democracy. We’re wrapping up the first half of our two-week member drive, and I’m grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve seen so far.
