It’s times like these that I become especially angry about our broken political system. Enraged about a corrupt campaign finance system that allows corporations and billionaires to spend endless amounts of money to buy elections and hire armies of lobbyists to push their agenda.

These corrupt special interests are trying to defeat me. That’s why I’m emailing today with an important update and to ask for your help.

This weekend, a Republican Super PAC announced plans to spend as much as $3 million dollars to defeat me. This means, while I’m working around the clock to serve my community, I still need to think about fundraising.

I don’t depend on billionaires or corporate special interests to fund my critical re-election campaign. I don’t take money from corporate PACs. I rely on small-dollar, grassroots, contributions from people like you.

That’s why I’m asking you to stand with me and support my grassroots campaign. Please make a $5 contribution or whatever you’re able to send.

Our nation will weather this storm. We will persevere through this crisis and as we do, this pandemic will show us why government leadership matters. I’m calling out big corporations and polluters who are trying to use this crisis to evade regulations that protect us. I’m standing up to Trump administration officials trying to renege on their public duty to deliver help to American families so they can focus on the priorities of lobbyists for big corporations. This is a challenging time for all Americans. But please know that my focus on putting people first, ahead of special interests, has not wavered.

With our way of life and daily routines upended, I understand that making a political contribution may be far from your top concern. But the reality is, if we don’t raise the resources we need, I will lose my re-election. So please, consider giving what you can.
