Advanced Media Spokesperson Training with a Focus on Anti-Asian Hate

This three-part Advanced Media Training series, led by Spitfire Strategies, which builds on the media training offered by Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC as part of its Stop Anti-Asian Hate and Violence Initiative ([link removed]) , will equip you to craft a strong message, deliver that message under pressure, and navigate live interviews with the media. This highly interactive series, includes:

* Opposition/Inoculation Messaging Training – Online Session – June 21, 2024
* Spokesperson Training – Online Session – June 28, 2024
* Camera-ready Coaching – In-Person Sessions – July 13 & 14, 2024
+ Each participant will receive an individualized coaching session customized to their expertise and the topics they expect to speak about with the media.
+ Participants will receive feedback and a video copy of their on-camera session.

We will convene participants in-person for the Camera-ready Coaching sessions on July 13-14, 2024 in Philadelphia. The selected participants will have the opportunity to join the APIAVote Presidential Town Hall ([link removed]) and concurrent convenings, including the AAPI Leadership Summit, APAICS National Academy, the JACL National Convention, and the OCA National Convention.

The individuals selected for this training will be added to Advancing Justice – AAJC’s roster of spokespeople and may be contacted for media interviews and other speaking opportunities following successful completion of the training.

ELIGIBILITY

Staff and board members of 501(c)(3) organizations that serve Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities in the U.S. and are engaged in work to address anti-Asian hate and violence are eligible to apply. In addition, applicants should be management or director-level, or otherwise authorized to speak with the media on behalf of their organization.

FUNDING

Stipends of $3,000-$3,500 will be awarded to assist with the cost of travel related to this training. While stipend funds can be used to cover registration fees and travel expenses for the other events scheduled in conjunction with the APIAVote Presidential Town Hall on July 13, 2024, no additional funds will be provided by Advancing Justice – AAJC beyond the stipend awarded. Please note that stipends will be paid to the organizations with which the selected participants are affiliated.

Applicants are asked to submit a resume and provide responses of no more than 250 words each to 5 questions. In addition, applicants are asked to provide information about their organizations, including the current staff size, budget, and most recent Form 990.

Finally, applicants are asked to provide documentation that they have the support of the head of their organization for their participation in this training program.
