Remember when Congress sanctioned Russia for spreading online misinformation in the United States ahead of the 2020 election, John?
It turns out the Israeli government is currently doing something similar:
According to reports, the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs spent $2 million since October to create fake news websites and social media accounts and used OpenAI and ChatGPT to create Islamophobic, anti-Palestinian, and pro-war content. The accounts specifically targeted Black Democratic lawmakers, including our own Rep. Cori Bush as well as major AIPAC beneficiaries Rep. Ritchie Torres and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
It’s bad enough that the anti-Palestinian lobby group AIPAC, which is mostly funded by corporate and Republican megadonors, is infiltrating our Democratic primaries with hand-picked challengers to oust the Squad.
But this is a dangerous campaign of lies and misinformation carried out by a foreign government. And it’s all the more disturbing that it's happening while the U.S. continues to provide Israel’s military with billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded weapons and bombs used to carry out genocide.
The Democratic establishment cannot keep making excuses for the Israeli government’s crimes. The more we can raise the alarm about this to our representatives, the more likely we are to see real accountability.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
