John,
80 years ago today, American and allied forces led the largest seaborne invasion in history on the beaches of Normandy.
Their goal was to liberate Europe from the Nazis and reverse the spread of fascism.
To stop a man who called his enemies vermin. A dictator who purged his government of anyone he deemed insufficiently loyal. A tyrant who struck out against his enemies — real or perceived — with vengeance and retribution. A man who sought absolute power in order to impose his extremist views on all mankind.
Their goal was to free the world and make it safe for democracy. They succeeded, but it came at a high cost.
Today, we find ourselves on the precipice of another battle against fascism. But the greatest threat to our democracy, sadly, is from the Republican nominee for president.
Whether we follow in the footsteps of our ancestors, or succumb to the whims of one man’s desire for power… it’s up to us.
Defeating dictators is in our blood. VoteVets is ready for the fight. Are you with us?
