Unpermitted food push carts

Public Health ? Seattle & King County (PHSKC) is aware of and has responded to makeshift push carts, which are often red and have a similar design and operation, being used to sell hot dogs at the stadiums and in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle. These vendors are not inspected nor permitted, and therefore PHSKC cannot verify how the vendors store and prepare food. The carts aren't designed to be used to handle food safely. They don't have hand washing, clean water, or refrigeration. Furthermore, these carts are equipped with fuel sources being used in a manner that create a danger.

PHSKC has made multiple attempts to engage the operators of these carts about required food business permits and how to obtain one. At this time, several of these carts continue to sell food. The unsafe food practices occurring at these carts put the public at risk for foodborne illnesses. We urge the public to seek out permitted vendors when purchasing food. A permitted mobile vendor will display a PHSKC sticker on the mobile food unit.

"This information is also posted at the bottom of the Closures homepage including images of the push carts."
