John, as the information about COVID-19 and its spread changes day by day, it becomes increasingly clear that we aren’t equipped yet to manage a global crisis of this scale. That is a huge problem.
The bad news: Beyond the massive challenges we face with this virus, we only have about 10 years to radically reinvent our energy, transportation, health, and labor sectors to mitigate the worst of climate change.
The good news: The Green New Deal proposes a slate of nationwide policy, infrastructure, and investment reforms which would allow us to actually move forward into a future that is livable for all.
Frontline communities are hit first and worst by environmental injustices and natural disasters. Here in St. Louis, black children are 10 times more likely to live with asthma than white children, because our neighborhoods are more polluted. It’s our same communities that are at the highest risk for COVID, generally work in low-wage, low-protection jobs, and are chronically underinsured. But we cannot make the mistake of believing it has to be this way.
I am a vocal advocate for the Green New Deal because I believe that every human being deserves clean air, clean water, green jobs, safe housing, and increased mobility. If that’s radical, then call me radical.
As your Congresswoman, I will take on the fossil fuel lobbies and climate change deniers in Washington, D.C. But I need your support to get there. Can you donate today?
