Happy Pride Month, John!

This month, we come together to honor the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating their unwavering strength, resilience, and contributions to our communities and world.

But, as we celebrate, I can’t help but also feel a sense of profound sadness and anger at the attacks that many adults – and children – face from extremists who try to deny who they are and who they love.

Across the nation, we're witnessing a dangerous surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation that poses very real threats to the rights and safety of our friends, neighbors, and family members. As a proud mother of two LGBTQ+ adults, I will always stand up to discrimination against Americans for living openly and freely as themselves.

At Stony Brook University, I advocated for LGBTQ+ students and worked to make the college a welcoming and inclusive environment. When MAGA extremists came to attack our kids and teachers in local schools, I worked with a group of fellow local moms to create the Long Island Strong Schools Alliance, to make sure that every child feels a sense of belonging at school, no matter who they are. In Congress, I’ll continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every Long Islander is valued, respected, and free from discrimination.

But I know this work is far from over. I urge you to stand with me in supporting the LGBTQ+ community and their allies, not just during Pride Month, but every day.

Together, we can create a society where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and equality, regardless of who they are or who they love.
