Hi there, John. It’s Senator Angus King.
Yesterday afternoon, the Senate voted on the Right to Contraception Act — a bill that would codify the right to contraception in federal law and a bill that I was proud to cosponsor. The more we see women’s access to health care challenged in states across the country, the more important it is to make this basic right ironclad.
Unfortunately that bill failed to advance, because we simply did not have enough votes.
Here’s what we know: Americans overwhelmingly support access to contraception. In fact, recent studies show that number to be as high as 88%.
Here’s what else I know: healthcare and bodily autonomy shouldn’t be a partisan issue; it’s just common sense. That’s why, as an Independent, I’ve been outspoken in this debate for years – from Supreme Court nominations to codifying Roe v. Wade into law to protecting every woman's decision to make their own health choices.
Although we fell short this time, I promise to keep fighting to protect your access to reproductive healthcare, because it’s the right thing to do.
John: I’m up for reelection this November, and I’m hoping you’ll pitch in $5 or $10 so that my team has what they need to get me across the finish line.
I want to keep fighting for you and your family in the Senate, I just need your support to make that happen.
Thank you, John.
Angus
