Yesterday, Senate Republicans blocked legislation to make it a federal right to access contraception.

As women across America suffer the consequences of the Supreme Court's decision to gut Roe v. Wade , right-wing Republican lawmakers continue working overtime to ban contraception, IVF, and abortion nationwide.

By preventing a bill guaranteeing the legal right for individuals to get and use contraception — and health care providers to provide contraception and counseling — Republicans are determined to take away our reproductive freedom across the board.

It is another dangerous and deadly move by Republican lawmakers. Abortion, contraception, and IVF are a right, not a privilege, that right-wing extremists can remove at will.

Reproductive freedom and the right to an abortion are on the ballot this year, no matter how often Republicans close their eyes and cross their fingers.

Every Washingtonian must hold extremist Republicans fully accountable for their ongoing attacks on women and reproductive rights in November.

The right to an abortion and access to contraception is not — and never should be — negotiable.
