John,

Last week, Republicans showed us exactly how NOT to run an election during a global pandemic.

In Wisconsin, Republican judges and lawmakers forced voters to wait in crowded lines at the polls instead of expanding absentee voting. They intentionally put people's lives at risk, all because they thought it would suppress voter turnout enough to win them a hotly-contested state Supreme Court seat.

They were wrong.

Last night, after all the votes were counted, the Wisconsin Working Families Party ended up scoring HUGE progressive victories in campaigns across the state — including Jill Karofsky, who defeated the Republican-aligned incumbent Daniel Kelly for Wisconsin Supreme Court.

From firing up hundreds of thousands of voters, to ensuring they had everything they needed to cast a ballot, finding new and innovative ways to organize in this era of social distancing, and building a robust electoral infrastructure in preparation for November: That’s what WFP organizers and our allies just did in Wisconsin, and that’s our roadmap to victory in November nationwide if we keep at it.

In addition to Jill Karofsky’s win, other WFP candidates who won their elections included Ryan Clancy for Milwaukee County Board, Marina Dimitrijevic for Milwaukee Alderwoman, Angelito Tenorio for West Allis City Council, Joe Maldonado for Fitchburg City Council, and Jody Spencer for Racine County Board. And we helped win a referendum in Milwaukee that will give public school students and their families a much-needed funding boost for the first time in 25 years, following WI WFP’s sweep of Milwaukee School Board races in 2019.

WFP activists and volunteers helped make these victories happen by reaching voters through hundreds of thousands of texts and phone calls — and by building the infrastructure that will be needed to run a robust vote-by-mail program come November.

This election was marred by shameful partisan efforts to limit people's access to vote during a pandemic. Our own organizers were put in the terrible position of having to tell people they may not be able to vote if they were high-risk.

Now more than ever, we need leaders who are going to fight to protect working families and our democracy from the radical right, who have once again shown that they’ll put lives at risk to try and stay in power.

Electing hundreds more working families champions at every level of government no matter what obstacles are put in front of us — that's our plan for the rest of primary season through November.

If you can afford it, please make a contribution today to help WFP candidates keep winning victories like this across the country.

In solidarity,

Working Families Party
