The Bermuda Triangle is in an area of the Atlantic called the Sargasso Sea – the only sea without a land border - and it’s home to marine life like turtles, whales and a nursery for many more incredible creatures. [1]

But this place of wonder is under threat from industrial fishing, plastic pollution and the climate crisis. A few weeks ago, a new investigation showed that almost 2000 km of fishing line passed through this ecosystem last year - enough to stretch from the UK to Morocco when laid end to end! [2]That’s why we sailed to the Sargasso Sea to do vital science work and show how important this ecosystem is for marine life around the world.

The problem is, the Sargasso Sea is very far away - and it’s not high on many people's list of priorities. But this important place could be the very first ocean sanctuary under the Global Ocean Treaty which all of us have worked so hard to deliver. [3] We know ocean sanctuaries will provide a space for oceans to recover- and healthy oceans are vital for billions of people around the world and to help tackle climate change!

That’s why we brought Dan Smith from Bastille - the world famous band - to the Sargasso Sea too. [4] We want everyone to see its beauty and importance, and why it needs protecting! We’ve filmed a performance of an unreleased song - in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle! Can you watch and share the video with your friends and family?

Want to do more? Dan’s signed an open letter calling for the next government to properly protect our oceans, can you join him? [link removed]

This unreleased song is called Blue Sky & the Painter - and with the announcement of a general election - we’re feeling hopeful too! Whoever the winner is - they must prove their credentials for global leadership on climate and nature, and set themselves apart from the last 14 years. Together, we must push them to properly protect the Sargasso Sea and our oceans! Make sure you act.

Thanks for everything you do,
Anthony and the oceans team.

P.S. If you want to do more, join Dan Smith and many others who’ve added their name to an open letter calling on whichever party wins the upcoming election to protect the Sargasso Sea. Add your name here: [link removed]
