Dear Friend,
Villa was left outside the PAWS Chicago Medical Center late one evening, a hand-scrawled note written on her box: "Found her alone in the rain, please take care of her."
This year, PAWS Chicago’s 3rd annual Giving Day has a special urgency. Giving Day is an opportunity for the PAWS community to recommit ourselves to our mission of building a No Kill Chicago and celebrate the enormous strides we’ve made over our 27 years. But the recent surge in homeless pets like Villa requires a special response. Increased pet abandonment, homelessness, and euthanasia rates are straining the animal welfare system in Chicago and around the country. Chicago Animal Care & Control (CACC), the city impoundment facility, euthanatized 22.7% more pets in 2023 than the year before.
PAWS has answered the call to help. In 2023, we expanded our longstanding relationship with CACC, introducing PAWS 360@CACC, a program providing support for animals at every stage in their shelter journeys. But our work is far from done.
With the warm weather, waves of new kittens and puppies are being born. We need to recruit scores of new adopters, find hundreds of foster homes, and perform thousands of free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to keep these pets from continuing the cycle of exponential breeding.
Because of supporters like you, PAWS was able to take Villa in, treat her, and immediately place her in a cozy foster home to heal. Once healthy and big enough, we’ll make sure Villa finds a family that is devoted to her for the rest of her life.
This Giving Day, you have the power to help prevent suffering on a massive scale. Please give now and DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT with the $35,000 matching gift challenge issued by our friends at My Virtuous Quest.
The larger our community, the more lives we can save!
