Good morning,
This is the Texas Minute for June 6, 2024, the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
– Michael Quinn Sullivan
TODAY IN HISTORY
'This Great And Noble Undertaking' On June 6, 1944, nearly 160,000 men from the United States, Canada, England, and the other Allied nations embarked on the greatest invasion in history. Through choppy seas and turbulent skies, they landed on the deadly Normandy beaches—code-named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. In acts of unimaginable sacrifice and unmatched heroism, they began the liberation of Europe from the totalitarian clutches of Adolf Hitler's National Socialism.
Texas was well represented on that day: from Dwight David Eisenhower serving as the Supreme Allied Commander to James Earl Rudder leading his rangers up the cliffs to assault Pointe du Hoc.
"You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. ... let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking." – Dwight D. Eisenhower [[link removed]] House GOP Caucus May Expel Members Who Campaigned With Abbott Against Liberal Republicans A group of conservative lawmakers say they could soon be expelled by the Texas House Republican Caucus for endorsing challengers to incumbents in the recent primary election. Brandon Waltens has the details [[link removed]].
Called the “Incumbent Protection Program,” the Texas House Republican Caucus prohibits members from endorsing against incumbents and has threatened to censure members who have done so in the past.
This cycle, however, conservative incumbent State Reps. Brian Harrison, Nate Schatzline, Steve Toth, and Tony Tinderholt joined statewide Republicans like Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in endorsing against liberal Republicans in an election cycle that saw the primary defeat of 14 incumbents.
While the source of the movement to expel the members has not been made public, an insider told Texas Scorecard [[link removed]] that State Reps. Cole Hefner (Mount Pleasant) and Jared Patterson (Frisco), aligned with Speaker Dade Phelan, are behind the effort.
“Without substantive reforms, the caucus should probably just be disbanded,” said Harrison [[link removed]], adding that during his tenure in the House, it had become “the muscle for the liberal speaker’s team.” Abbott Unveils Top 10 Most Wanted Illegal Alien Criminals in Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has announced a list of the 10 most wanted criminal illegal aliens in Texas. Luca Cacciatore reports [[link removed]] eight of them are charged with sex-related crimes, and six of those involve minors.
The list will be maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety [[link removed]].
Studies have shown that illegal aliens commit violent crimes at a higher rate than Texans.
“Texas is a law-and-order state, and with the help of our fellow Texans, we will ensure that the illegal immigrants on this list are taken off our streets and put behind bars to keep our communities safe.” – Greg Abbott [[link removed]]
Related News With the border crisis continuing to spiral out of control, the Biden administration has made an on-paper effort to “secure the border.”
As Will Biagini reports [[link removed]], Gov. Abbott is calling the administration's action a hollow gesture timed before the general election. Texas Sues to Block Revival of Obama-era Overtime Pay Regulation Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the U.S. Department of Labor [[link removed]] for crafting a compensation regulation that would raise the minimum salary threshold required for overtime pay exemption. Paxton says the rule would usurp authority that Congress has not granted.
The Biden rule mirrors one that was imposed during the Obama administration. In that case, also, Paxton had sued the federal government over the measure. He secured a court injunction against the Obama administration, and the rule was struck down.
“I look forward to holding this Administration accountable for their regulatory overreach—we fought and won this battle once before.” – Ken Paxton [[link removed]] Tarrant County GOP Chair Sounds Alarm on School's Left-wing Trainings As students begin their summer break, Tarrant County GOP Chair Bo French is calling out Fort Worth Independent School District’s use of radical left-wing training materials for teachers. Emily Medeiros has the story [[link removed]].
In a series of posts to the social media platform X, French revealed Fort Worth ISD’s contracts and payment receipts showing that the district paid for teacher training from “Learning for Justice,” a project from the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center.
According to French, Learning for Justice’s materials instruct teachers to hide the preferred sexual and gender identities of their students from their parents. They also encourage teachers to “bring LGBTQ role models and public figures into the classroom” to promote LGBT identities and “pride” parades. 🔒 Donate to Texas Scorecard 🔒 [[link removed]] Number of the Day
