Today was a pivotal moment in our fight for reproductive rights.

Despite the clear demand across America for the protection of our liberties, Senate Republicans have once again obstructed the passage of crucial legislation—this time blocking legislation that would have secured the federal right to access contraception.

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to take action to help us secure a pro-choice Senate majority to counter the GOP’s extremism – but first, let me explain what happened today.

Senate Republicans launched another dangerous attack on reproductive rights by defeating legislation that would have ensured that no state can deny any person the fundamental right to control their reproductive health.

Their attempts to erode reproductive freedom is relentless.

Next door in Idaho, laws have been enacted that prevent educators from discussing contraception, leaving our young people in the dark about critical health care options. In Texas, even as leaders promote the use of emergency contraception, they simultaneously remove it from state health coverage.

These are not isolated incidents but part of a broader, sinister agenda to undermine reproductive health and personal freedoms and limit access to abortion, contraception and even IVF!

In Washington state, we will always stand firm in our protection of reproductive rights.

A recent study from the University of Washington showed a 50% increase in out-of-state patients seeking abortions since the Dobbs Decision. This not only highlights our state's role as a refuge but underscores the broad impact of restrictive laws in neighboring regions.

As we face these unprecedented attacks, it’s crucial that every Washingtonian, and indeed every American, understands what’s at stake. The right to make personal health decisions is fundamental and non-negotiable.
