House Republicans Pass Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (VA) Funding Bill

At a time in which we see war in Europe, fighting in the Middle East, and continued unrest in the Indo-Pacific, House Republicans are making a substantial investment in our military infrastructure while simultaneously fully funding VA benefits and healthcare.

The White House has released a veto threat over provisions included in the bill that would ban gender-affirming care, ban the VA from flying the LGBTQ+ “Pride” flag at its facilities, and prohibit any discriminatory action from being taken against someone whose religious or whose moral beliefs are that marriage should be recognized as a union between one man and one woman.

This veto threat shows that our President cares more about liberal policies than he does about honoring the promise that we have made our Veterans. I am pleased to share that the House of Representatives approved this legislation earlier today, standing with our veterans who have sacrificed to serve and protect this great nation we call home.

Biden’s Executive Order on the Border

In November of 2023, I asked Secretary Mayorkas to share how many illegal border crossings would constitute a bad day at the border, and he refused to answer. This week, President Biden signed an executive order that allows 2,500 illegal immigrants to cross the border each day. President Biden caused the current border crisis and for nearly four years refused to take action to address this crisis.  Biden’s executive order is not a serious attempt to solve the crisis but is instead an election year stunt designed to mislead the public. Welcoming Our Summer Interns

Recently, we welcomed our first group of summer interns. We are excited to have young Mississippians come work for the Third District of Mississippi and learn about government and civics. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight our interns who are serving both in our district office and in our Washington, D.C., office. This week, I wanted to introduce Jason Odom. My district office enjoyed having Jason interning the past few weeks. Jason is a rising junior at the University of Alabama and is studying history and political science.
