The Macomb County Board of Commissioners is seeking to fill two upcoming vacancies on the Macomb County Veterans Affairs Commission. This position is open to residents of Macomb County who have served honorably on active duty or those who have served actively in a U.S. war. These are both 4-year terms, which begin August 1, 2024 and end July 31, 2028.
The Veterans' Affairs Commission oversees the Veterans' Services Department. Specific duties of commission members include:
- Appointing its director
- Reviewing new benefits offered by the federal government
- Reviewing applications for the burial allowance
- Attending bi-monthly meetings
Applicants shall have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in public service, business or finance. The statute requires the commission to have one independent member who may or may not be a member of a congressionally chartered veterans' organization. If applicable, a letter from the veterans' organization must be submitted with the application.

Applicants should expect to attend the Government Oversight Committee meeting on July 17, 2024 at 3 PM for a public interview. Appointments will take place at the July 18, 2024 Full Board meeting.
