Happy World Environment Day!
A few weeks ago, Amazon Watch put out a call to our community to send notes of support to three powerful Indigenous Women Defenders of the Amazon: Puyr Tembé, Célia Xakriabá, and Olivia Bisa. Your response blew us away!
Notes poured in from all over the world letting Puyr, Célia, and Olivia know how many people are behind them and thanking them for their leadership. Indigenous women are at the front of the movement for the Amazon, and as they face racism, sexism, and extractive violence, this kind of support really matters.
Once we sent these messages to Célia, Olivia, and Puyr (okay, and maybe dried some tears), we had to share them with you. Because here is where hope lies for the Earth: in our collective work for a thriving and just planet.
(You might want to get some tissues ready.)
Indigenous peoples are true climate leaders. They protect 80% of the planet’s biodiversity and defend the Amazon’s rainforests and rivers. So when you support Indigenous solutions, you make our climate future brighter.
Thank you for being part of our community of rainforest and climate justice champions!
For the heart of our planet,
