President Biden issued an executive action that would effectively shut down the U.S.-Mexico border and gut our nation’s asylum laws.

Yesterday, I attended a rally with members of Congress and partner organizations in Washington, D.C. to call on the Biden administration to reverse course and instead pursue practical solutions that increase our capacity to welcome immigrants humanely, including:

• Timely and fair processing of asylum applications
• Expanding legal pathways
• Supporting cities that are welcoming our new neighbors

President Biden’s craven embrace of failed Republican policies is a dire mistake that will only lead to more harm and dysfunction at the border. Not just that, but this executive action violates domestic and international laws. A similar asylum ban was put in place under Trump, and it did not survive court scrutiny.

We will not stand by while this administration plays politics with people’s lives.
