Dear Friend,
On Passover, Jews around the world ask the question: “Why is this night different from all other nights?”
This year, we could ask: "Why is this year different from all other years?"
Coronavirus has cost tens of thousands of lives and disrupted the lives of millions more. It is a level of destruction and disruption that has made 2020 different from all other years.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, and all those infected and affected by coronavirus. As we continue to grieve and pray, there is some reason to be optimistic in 2020. After 2019 brought unprecedented anti-Semitic attacks against our community, we are making positive steps forward.
ZOA is proud of our successful six-year campaign to have Jewish students covered under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, in addition to other minorities. Because of ZOA’s victory, Jewish Students can now file complaints of their experiencing any antisemitism, discrimination or harassment they may have endured.
Using Title VI, ZOA recently won a case claiming anti-Israel bias and antisemitic actions at Duke and the University of North Carolina. Now, any attack on Jews will be considered an attack on civil rights - and will be treated as seriously as an attack on any race, nationality or people:
“[it] allows the government to consider discrimination against the group as a violation of a key civil rights law. That means schools could lose federal funding if they fail to combat discrimination against Jewish students.”
- Washington Post, December 12, 2019
ZOA played an integral role in America recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
We are pushing for immediate lawful sovereignty over Jewish communities in Judea/Samaria and the Jordan Valley.
ZOA is leading the charge for Jerusalem-born Americans to have “Israel” listed as their birthplace on their passports.
2020 HAS BEEN DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER YEAR.
BUT OUR COMMITMENT TO ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE REMAINS STEADFAST AND TRUE.
2020 is an election year – and the ZOA will fight every anti-Semitic or anti-Israel politician who dares to fundraise off of Jew hatred or anti-Semitic tropes, or who tries to turn Israel and the Jewish people into partisan political pawns.
“The ZOA has been a bullwark in the defense of Israel and the Jewish people. I urge you to support the ZOA.”
- Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving Prime Minister
