Dear John, The housing crisis is deeply impacting millions of people across this country.
In a new poll Right to the City Alliance and Right to the City Action conducted with the Center for Popular Democracy and HIT Strategies, the results are clear — rising housing costs are burdening voters in key states. And they want REAL solutions. |
We asked registered voters in five states across the country about housing and 59% of voters said that if lawmakers prioritized working on cost of rent and housing, it would improve their personal situation. And that’s even more true for renters, youth, and Black voters. Although housing is a top concern for voters, it’s one they reported seeing their elected representatives addressing the least.
Policy solutions like rent stabilization, good cause eviction, and social housing resonated with nearly ⅔ of the voters we surveyed! The numbers back up what our Right to the City member organizations have been fighting for across the country, from rent control to community-controlled and social housing. Voters are hungry for REAL solutions to the housing crisis! Read more in our exclusive with POLITICO Playbook.

It’s time for our elected officials to step up. Their inaction to address the housing crisis is hurting renters — a huge and crucial voting bloc. But we’re organizing and building power to win housing solutions that prioritize people over profit. Join renters and homeowners who want elected officials to support affordable housing in our communities!
