Hey friend,

Summer is here and you may remember what that used to consist of: The dreaded book report. This always involved some literary classic like Fahrenheit 451 or Animal Farm and made a lot of us put our procrastination to the test.

But that’s behind us now…maybe for everyone.

You see since Fall 2021, there have now been 10,000 books banned across the United States. These books range in topics from LGBTQ+ and civil rights history to women’s health and...peanut butter? (They really did ban a book about George Washington Carver, look it up.)

Jokes aside, this is serious.

In an era of misinformation AND disinformation, we rely on books to teach the younger generation the history of the oppressed. People of color, women, and the LGBTQ+ community DESERVE to have their stories told. Have you ever heard of the good guys banning books?

If the GOP had their way, they would dissolve the Department of Education and public schools altogether. We can’t let that happen, but the fight starts locally.
