Hi,
I wanted to reach out and give you some updates on what we’re doing to navigate this challenging time. In the face of the pandemic, we are doing everything we can to help out in the ways that matter most. Here are a few steps we’ve taken to support our communities:
- Congress passed several COVID-19 relief bills to provide much needed support for everyone struggling with the pandemic – including relief checks for families, expanded unemployment benefits, direct Social Security benefits for seniors, and more.
- We also passed the CARES Act, which provides some critical support – like relief for small businesses – that are working to make ends meet. But we still have much more to do.
- I have also renewed the call to pass the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) to protect all victims of domestic violence. Especially during this crisis, it is more important than ever that we ensure everyone’s safety and health.
- In our increasingly digital world, we have been hosting a series of Facebook Live videos with community leaders and experts in various fields to share important information and resources for people here in Kansas’ 3rd.
- It’s so important that we adequately prepare (and thank) our frontline workers. I have called for the use of the Defense Production Act to massively upscale the production and distribution of supplies to frontline workers.
Our top priority is to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all in this country during this uniquely difficult period. It’s my job to ensure the government is working for you, especially in times of crisis.
Like many of you, I’ve also been looking for creative ways to adjust to our new normal. Below are some of my favorite resources and tips to help you cope:
Some Helpful Tips & Resources:
First and foremost, consult the CDC website for information about preventative measures, symptoms, and what to do if you are feeling sick.

Finally, if you are looking for ways to give back, please consider making a donation to any number of amazing charities that are making a difference – here in Kansas and across the country. Here are a few ideas:
- The Kansas City YMCA is offering childcare for essential employees in the Kansas City metro area.
- Harvesters is a regional food bank feeding hungry families in and around Kansas City.
- United Way of Wyandotte County is helping our community access the resources they need during the crisis.
- The American Red Cross is facing blood shortages. If you’re able, consider making a monetary donation or giving blood or plasma yourself.
