Friend –
Yesterday, the Biden administration announced executive actions that will legally restrict people's right to seek asylum. Read more. <[link removed]>
Among the measures announced, the administration will effectively shut off asylum for the overwhelming majority of people arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Biden's executive action takes the same basic approach as the Trump administration's "entry ban," which the ACLU and partners successfully challenged in court. It guts the humanitarian protections that our country has long guaranteed to people fleeing torture and persecution who make it to America, and will likely send some people to their deaths.
We want to be very clear at this moment, ACLU Supporter: We intend to challenge this order in court. It was illegal when Trump did it, and it is no less illegal now. Please read our full statement here and know that we will be back very soon with more work on our critical fight for immigrants' rights. <[link removed]>
