Is covid-19 involved in the ongoing stalemate in forming a governing coalition after a third straight election? A. If anything, the pandemic has lent a sense of urgency and mission to Benny Gantz’s bizarre effort to form an emergency or unity government headed by his rival, interim Prime Minister Netanyahu... Q. Are there no other options for the next three weeks? A. Gantz and Netanyahu can continue negotiating... Q. Enough with politics. Where are the effects of living with the virus actually felt in Israeli society? A. The most obvious effect concerns public attitudes toward Israel’s one million Haredim (ultra-Orthodox Jews)... Q. And restrictions on the elderly in assisted-living centers? A. ...the death rate among the elderly congregating in assisted-living facilities is high... Q. What about restrictions on civil and political rights. Are you certain they are temporary? A. ...Israelis are not particularly concerned... Q. What about the Palestinians and corona? A. Sign the petition to Netanyahu and Gantz: "No to Annexation, Yes to Peace!"
A Netanyahu-Gantz government, if established, will reportedly be the first in Israel’s history to adopt the extremist policy principle of overtly pursuing West Bank annexation. Such a policy will continue the conflict and likely lead to another wave of violence, and sends the message that Israel is choosing continual conflict over democracy and peace. Tell Netanyahu and Gantz: Say No to Annexation, and Yes to Peace.
