Dear Friend,
Two years ago, extremist Republicans dangerously blocked the Right to Contraception Act in Congress, leaving the door wide open for them to ban essential birth control methods like IUDs, the birth control pill, and Plan B. This attack on our reproductive rights is a deliberate and devastating move to strip us of our full range of health options and control over our own bodies.
But tomorrow, our U.S. Senators have a pivotal opportunity to pass the Right to Contraception Act and enshrine the right to contraception in federal law. Sign our petition and send a letter to your Senators today. *When you click, you’ll instantly sign on if we have all the required information.
Let’s backtrack a little. What do we mean by the right to contraception?
Contraception is about preventing pregnancy. It includes methods like condoms, IUDs, the pill, the ring, the patch, and Plan B. For many women, especially mothers, access to contraception is crucial. It allows us to plan our families, pursue careers, contribute to the economy, and maintain our health and well-being. Over 90% of women use contraception at some point in their lives. The Right to Contraception Act–being voted on in the U.S. Senate tomorrow–guarantees all of that.[1]
The Right to Contraception Act would also ensure that health care providers can provide contraception to their patients whenever necessary. Also, the vast majority of Americans agree that people should have access to contraception. In fact, around 90 percent of Americans said that birth control options should be legal in “all” or “most” cases.[2]
Take action now! Urge your U.S. Senator to vote “YES” on the Right to Contraception Act! *When you click you'll instantly sign on if we have all the required information.
For decades, contraception has been legally separate from abortion. Yet, now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, some right-wing lawmakers are aggressively pushing bills that redefine emergency contraception and IUDs as “abortifacients.” At the national level and state level right-wing politicians are seeing how far they can push, falsely claiming IUDs, certain birth control pills, and Plan B cause abortions. Their goal is clear: to ban essential contraceptives as well. Their assertions are not only scientifically unfounded but also just plain old wrong!
Currently, the right to contraception in the U.S. is upheld by Supreme Court's cases that date back over 50 years! It’s incredibly important that the U.S. Congress codify and protect contraception nationally!
Dear Senator,
As a member of MomsRising, an organization with over one million members, I am writing to urge that you vote YES on the Right to Contraception Act. This policy will guarantee the legal right for individuals to get and use contraception. The bill would also ensure that health care providers can provide contraception to their patients whenever necessary.
