Dear John,
Over the weekend, more than 200 pilot whales were relentlessly hunted on the Faroe Islands, with 138 eventually killed. The surviving whales were traumatized, stuck in shallow waters, and at risk of beaching for 24 hours.
The whalers abandoned them, but our crew stayed and made several attempts to protect the distressed whales from beaching. After 27 hours of documenting this brutal hunt and staying right by the whales, the pod finally left the fjord and started to make their way out to sea on June 2nd.
While it’s not the highest kill count we’ve recorded, the utter disregard for distressed and traumatized whales in this instance is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

As the European Parliament elections are later this week, we are excited that over 850 candidates have signed the Vote for Animals pledge. Following this momentum, we are jumping on the opportunity to contact these candidates who have committed to ensuring that wild animals should be positively valued and protected under the Vote for Animals campaign.
If you are a resident of the EU, please join us in asking for their support of MEP Francisco Guerreiro’s recent Motion for a resolution on whale and dolphin hunting in the Faroe Islands, which we drafted in collaboration with our newest coalition member, The European Institute for Animal Law & Policy.
Send an email to your candidate today!
Thank you for the important difference you are helping us make for the pilot whales and dolphins in Faroese waters.
