Friend,
Even though my seder looked different this year, I found comfort, closeness and meaning in its story and rituals. Did you?
Being a prophetic people requires staying strong, even as we stay close to the pain of the world. The seder is one tool we have, another is organizing.
I’m deeply proud of Bend the Arc staff, leaders, and supporters who are continuing to organize for our collective liberation through this pandemic. I’m going to ask you below to consider making a donation to support our staff and field, which are working so hard to meet this moment.
Your support makes work like this possible: <[link removed]>
- To demand urgently needed coronavirus relief for all our communities, our staff and leaders mobilized Jews and allies in 48 out of 50 states to contact their Senators.
- To fight to protect bail reform, leaders in Long Island and Riverdale, NY, generated over 15,000 texts, 728 calls, and 5 local letters to the editor — especially critical when COVID-19 is putting incarcerated people at risk. (The Governor and Legislature made the wrong choice to roll back reforms, but we’ll keep fighting to end mass incarceration.)
- To demand freedom for immigrants in detention, leaders in Los Angeles joined our partners at Never Again Action - Los Angeles in organizing a honk-a-thon for immigrant and racial justice. More than 130 cars came out to surround the block with banners, signs, and calls to #ReleaseThemAll. Seattle leaders texted more than 2,000 people, gathering commitments to contact Governor Inslee’s office to call for the release of immigrants being detained in Tacoma, WA.
- The Jeremiah Fellowship, a program of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, launched its biggest cohort ever in 14 cities with 73 young people (ages 22-32) meeting for the first time online to start their intensive organizing leadership program.
- Pursuing Justice 2020, our national conference, will now be a meaningful online experience for hundreds in our movement this May (stay tuned for registration—coming next week).
- We’ve added 6 weeks to our existing paid leave for any staff who has to care for themselves or family members because of the coronavirus, living and practicing our values as an organization.
Bend the Arc staff, leaders, and supporters are organizing as part of a Jewish movement for an equitable and liberatory response to this pandemic.
If you are resourced to do so, please consider making a donation to support our staff and field, which are working so hard to meet this moment. <[link removed]>
We are in mitzrayim — the narrow place — but we are moving towards liberation. Together.
In heartfelt commitment,
