There is only one way out of this crisis -- our response must be based on science, accurate data and truthful information. Wishful thinking, political expediency and uninformed shortcuts don't work against an enemy like COVID-19.

That's why a critical RED LINE was crossed on Sunday night when President Trump retweeted a call to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases -- and the most trusted public voice in the scientific community on this crisis.

Dr. Fauci has served every American president since Ronald Reagan with distinction, and we all rely on him for the accurate information necessary to keep us safe during this pandemic.

Protecting Dr. Fauci is bigger than politics -- this is about keeping Americans informed and saving lives.

We have seen a dangerous pattern emerge in recent days. Trump has repeatedly removed high profile professionals for DOING THEIR JOBS. First, he fired the Inspector General for the intelligence community who, as required by law, alerted Congress to Trump's abuse of power scheme on the Ukraine call. Then, he precipitated the dismissal of the Navy Captain who warned his superiors about the dangers of the COVID outbreak aboard his ship. Last week Trump also removed the Defense Department Inspector General who was set to oversee the watchdog group tasked with monitoring any fraud and waste in the massive COVID response programs.

Now Trump is threatening to silence Dr. Fauci for educating the American public about the medical facts surrounding this virus and the steps needed to save lives.

We cannot allow Dr Fauci and our scientists to be silenced. This crisis is not over and Americans need someone who they can rely on for truth and fact-based analysis. We need Dr. Fauci.
