Hi all!

The past week held both some exciting and bittersweet news for us at The Hechinger Report. Some of our work from the past year was honored by the Education Writers Association ([link removed]) at its National Seminar in Las Vegas. Our story ([link removed]) by writer Laura Pappano, about how some parents were trying to rescue a school district in Idaho left in tatters by the culture wars, was selected as the winner ([link removed]) of the news category among small newsrooms. And our collaboration with Soledad O'Brien Productions and CBS News was honored as the winner in the visual storytelling category for a documentary ([link removed]) about the end of affirmative action in college admissions. This piece involved a legion of people, including Hechinger Editor in Chief
Liz Willen and the late Fazil Khan ([link removed]) , Hechinger's data reporter who died in February.

As much as we love to share and celebrate our work from the past, we also relish new, insightful work, such as this recent piece ([link removed]) about whether paying livable wages to child care workers in the nation's capital will survive District of Columbia budget woes.

There’s a lot more, so please: sign up for our newsletters ([link removed]) and become a member ([link removed]) ! Thank you for being one of our readers.

Revealing the true cost of college

We just updated our interactive tool, Tuition Tracker ([link removed]) , with the most recently available college tuition and enrollment data. Students can compare colleges by using their household income level to see what students like them have paid in the past and they can view an estimate of what they may pay to attend the college of their choice in the 2024-25 academic year. Plus, we've added new features to help college applicants get in touch with us directly. Try it yourself. ([link removed])
