It’s important to me to keep my supporters in the loop, so I wanted to share some updates from the last few weeks!

I announced a $1,008,333 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to Mercer University through the Healthy Start program. Mercer University runs South Georgia Healthy Start which helps provide information about maternal health, parenting, infant safety, and more. Infant mortality rates are 1.5 times the national average or higher in rural communities, so these resources are essential.

I also announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $4.8 million in grants to three healthcare centers in Blakely, Macon, and Columbus. Community health centers are a vital component of America’s healthcare system, and they play a huge role in making sure care is available and accessible to everyone.

Investing in the health of our communities, whether it be in resources for expecting families or facilities to make care more accessible, is imperative, and it’s a top priority for me.
