In May, Yasmine Farhang, Director of Advocacy, moderated a panel at the New York premier of the documentary Borderland: The line within. The film exposes the profitable business of immigration and its human cost, while sharing the stories of immigrant heroines and heroes resisting and showing a way forward, intent on building a movement in the shadow of the border industrial complex, recognizing the human rights of all.
Yasmine moderated a discussion at the DC Firehouse Theater with Pamela Yates, who directed the film, and two people featured, Gabriela Casteñeda, a DACA recipient and organizer, and Alex Gil, an immigrant and professor of Digital Humanities. The conversation was dynamic, ranging from insights about filmmakers obtained audio and video depicting the journey of one person from Guatemala to the U.S. to the the importance of organizing long time immigrant residents and newly arrived people around common experiences and visions for the future.
