We must fight back
Friend,

Right now, drug war zealots in the federal government are using the COVID-19 crisis as a cover to ramp up the global war on drugs. The Drug Policy Alliance is fighting against this wholly unnecessary escalation. We stand firm that instead of doubling down on a disastrous drug war, we should be focused on rebuilding communities and fostering the health and safety of all people. This is true at all times, but especially during a global pandemic.

Meanwhile, as the federal government expands the drug war, people serving time on federal drug charges continue to die from COVID-19. This inaction to reduce prison capacity to ensure the health and wellness of those in custody is clearly causing devastating results.

Drug war zealots are relentless. To fight them, we must be too. We rely on the consistent support from monthly donors to help us fight back in the toughest of times. Commit to a monthly donation today to stop this opportunistic expansion of the drug war.

Please help us continue the fight to save lives and end the criminalization of drugs and the people who use them. Your support is vital to our progress.

Subject: Amid pandemic, US ramps up drug war

Drug Policy Alliance
Dear Friend,

The Drug Policy Alliance relies on supporters like you to stand up for change and demand policies grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights.

Recently, I wrote to you about a dire situation, where President Trump is planning to divert vital personal protective equipment (PPE) away from healthcare workers and funnel them to efforts to ramp up the international drug war. Together, we need to let Trump know that escalating this disastrous drug war in the middle of a global pandemic is not the answer.

Instead of doubling down on the war on drugs, we need to focus on rebuilding communities and fostering the health and safety of all people. This is true at all times, but especially during a pandemic.

It is up to us to convince our elected officials to prioritize health-focused solutions over increased criminalization. Four of the first five people in federal prisons to die of COVID-19 were serving time for drug charges. And more will follow because of the federal government's inaction to reduce the number of people behind bars and ensure the health and wellness of those incarcerated.

Help us stop Trump from escalating the international drug war and depriving healthcare workers of badly needed resources. Become a Reformer today by signing up for a monthly gift.

Dependable support from monthly donors is essential to the work we do and to the future of drug policy reform. Any amount you can give will help us break the cycle in which criminalization is the default response to drug use, rather than health-focused solutions that can save lives

Thank you for standing with us.
