Registered to vote
One month to go until the General Election
There is only a month left until voters across the country will go to the polls to vote for who they would like to be their local MP to represent them in Parliament.
You need to be registered in order to be able to vote in the General Election taking place on *Thursday 4 July*.
If you have not already registered, or have moved house or changed your name recently, you will need to be registered to vote by 11:59pm on *Tuesday 18 June 2024* to be able to vote on 4 July.
Anyone over 16 can register online, although you must be 18 to vote in elections. You can register here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote [ [link removed] ]. It only takes five minutes and you only need your National Insurance number.
*Apply to vote by post*
Anyone who is registered to vote can apply to vote by post. The deadline for postal votes is 5pm on *Wednesday 19 June 2024*. You can now also apply to vote by post online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote [ [link removed] ]
*Apply for a proxy vote*
Anyone who is registered to vote can appoint someone they trust to vote on their behalf as a proxy.
Deadline to make an application for a proxy vote is 5pm on *Wednesday 26 June 2024*.

War memorial
Drumhead Service to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day
On Tuesday 11 June at 7pm, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council present a sunset service at the Victoria Embankment War Memorial to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.
This will be an open-air Drumhead Service officiated by the Padres of Nottinghamshire Army Cadet Force, the Rev Paul Massey and the Rev Mark Orr, including a parade of County Veterans and Standards, the Act of Remembrance and closing with the sunset ceremony, with the band of the South Nottinghamshire Hussars Association providing the music.
The service will be informal and open to all.
Parking is available at County Hall Car Park (NG2 7QP) with pedestrian access to the Memorial Gardens across the footbridge.

Black British Ballet
What's On at Nottingham Central Library
There are a number of exciting events coming up at Nottingham Central Library this June, from talks with authors on their books, to the Black British Ballet performing as part of the 'Sound at Central' programme.
*Author Events*
* Novelist Jonathan Coe discusses his new book 'The Body in the Library' with Graham Caveney on 6 June. In this memoir from one of the great chroniclers of British working-class life, Graham Caveney charts a year of disease from diagnosis of cancer to past ‘original sell-by-date’.
* 'Unsuitable: a history of lesbian fashion,' an illustrated talk by Eleanor Medhurston on 20 June, explores the cultural, political, and social journey of lesbian attire.
*Workshops and Live Music*
* Iranian multidisciplinary artist Elaheh Raofi presents 'Pirouz Installation – The New Generation' from 10 to 22 June in the atrium. Elaheh will demonstrate weaving and sculpture practices, offering workshops during select times.
* Celebrate Big Green Week by participating in floristry workshops, clay printing and creative writing workshops from 8 to 15 June.
* On 21 June The Black British Ballet perform 'Island Movements.' The Jazz Bastrds, DJ Bradley Jam, DJ Hemulen of Jamcafe, and more artists will also perform.

Rothesay Open Nottingham
Rothesay Open Nottingham begins this weekend
The 2024 Rothesay Open Nottingham takes place at Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre from Saturday 8 – Sunday 16 June. Don’t miss your chance to see the world’s biggest tennis stars in action during the summer grass court season.
Current British No.1 and winner of the 2023 tournament, Katie Boulter, will be returning to defend her title. She’ll be joined by Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion. British No.1 Cam Norrie is also set to return to the Rothesay Open Nottingham for the first time in six years after receiving a wild card into the main draw. He will join fellow Brits Dan Evans and Liam Broady on the men’s side and will come in as the highest ranked player in the draw.
