June is a joyous time when we celebrate the LGBTQI+ community in Texas and across the country. It’s a time to recognize the progress we’ve made reflected in people who are living authentic, fulfilling lives. I’m proud to represent TX-07’s diverse and dynamic LGBTQI+ community—from its longtime heart in Houston’s Montrose area to every corner of the district.
During Pride Month, we must also recommit to our fight for the dignity and rights of all people. Our work together is especially important right now when our LGBTQI+ friends and neighbors are facing increased hostility and discrimination. State legislatures across the country have introduced more than 500 anti-LGBTQI+ bills so far this year, and we see similar efforts in the House. Those measures don’t reflect our values as Houstonians or Texans.
As a Vice Chair of the Equality Caucus, I’m proud to help lead efforts in Congress to advance equality, combat discrimination, and improve opportunities and access for our LGBTQI+ community. I’m also proud to serve on the Board of the Equality PAC. Since its founding 10 years ago, Equality PAC—the political arm of the Congressional Equality Caucus—has supported LGBTQI+ candidates and allies dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBTQI+ Americans.
To bring about that change, there’s something we must do: win elections. And to win, we need campaigns, organizations, allies, and friends working together to elect the leaders we can trust.
So, this Pride Month, I’m asking you to consider making a contribution to the Equality PAC. Every dollar we raise will go toward supporting candidates who are committed to passing the Equality Act and ensuring full civil rights and protections for LGBTQI+ Americans.
Each June, we are reminded of how important it is to live authentically with pride. And it’s important to elect people who will work to make that possible for all people.
Happy Pride!
Together, we can do anything,
