In under-resourced communities, the school nurse may be the only healthcare provider a child sees. School nurses are essential in monitoring infectious diseases, identifying and addressing students' physical and mental health needs, conducting health screenings, developing school-located vaccination opportunities, and facilitating immunization compliance efforts. NASN's Virtual Hill Days create momentum and support for the NURSE Act, reintroduced on March 14, 2024, by U.S. Senator Jon Tester (MT-D) and already introduced by Representative Dina Titus (NV-D). This legislation aims to help rural and underserved schools hire more school nurses and increase student access to care. Participating will recognize the critical role of school nurses and demonstrate that every school should have a school nurse on staff every day.
