John,

It is more critical than ever to reject any and all tax hikes.

If you haven’t heard the news yet, Moody’s recently announced it has changed its outlook on Maryland’s credit rating to NEGATIVE–the first downgrade of its kind since the O’Malley administration.

It’s almost unbelievable that so much of the economic progress we made together has been rolled back so quickly. Hardworking Marylanders need economic relief, not fiscal insecurity from their state government.

I’m in this race for the U.S. Senate to deliver results for Marylanders and Americans, and that includes ensuring fiscal responsibility at the federal level as well.

This won’t be easy, though. Whether it is my opponent or partisan politicians in Washington, my campaign is being attacked from both sides.

I’m proud of the progress we made while I served as governor, and together, we can make the same great progress in the Senate for our entire country.

During my time as governor, we worked in a bipartisan way to maintain fiscal discipline, balance our budgets, and ensure the financial health of our state while cutting taxes by $4.7 billion.

After inheriting a $5.1 billion structural deficit, we left office with a record $5.5 billion in reserves.

We were able to reverse Maryland’s decline from 49th to 6th in overall economic performance because we created a booming economy!

Shortly before leaving office, I urged state leaders to continue our commitment to fiscal prudence.

Now, I am saddened to see Maryland’s fiscal trajectory heading in the direction of Washington DC.

Marylanders deserve a government that is committed to ensuring long-term fiscal stability. I hope this downgrade is a wake-up call to abandon all the talk in Annapolis of record tax increases and more reckless spending.

Now more than ever, Maryland needs leaders who will fight for tax relief and fiscal responsibility, and that is exactly what I will do in the United States Senate.

America is in a far more dire fiscal position, yet many of our politicians still want to solve the problem by raising taxes on Americans and American businesses!

I’m absolutely fed up with our politicians taking the WRONG approach. The American Dream is slipping away for far too many because of their partisanship and dysfunction.

I know how to turn a failing economic trajectory around, and I would be privileged to fix this mess as your Senator.

Your support is crucial to make this a reality.

A Personal Message from Governor Larry Hogan:

Hi, it’s Governor Larry Hogan.

When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.

Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.

Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.

I don't aspire to be a United States senator. I don’t need a title and I don’t need a job, but I’m more concerned than ever about the direction of the country and I have become more convinced that I can make a difference by taking the approach and style of leadership I had during my eight years as governor to Washington.

It’s no surprise this mindset has made me a target of the Washington partisans. Despite early polls showing a lead, I know I’m the underdog in this race. And that’s why your support TODAY is so crucial.

So if you can chip in a donation of $25 or more, it will go a long way in helping me continue building a strong campaign.

For eight years, we proved that the toxic politics that divide our nation didn’t need to divide our state, and we got results! Let’s get back to work again and send a message to Washington that will be heard loud and clear across the country!

Thank you,

Larry Hogan
