A felony murder conviction in Pennsylvania comes with a mandatory sentence of life without parole. Across the state, over 1,100 people are currently incarcerated for felony murder. Change could be coming, though.

This fall, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will hear a criminal appeal that mandatory life without parole for felony murder constitutes cruel punishment, violating the state constitution.

The outcome of the appeal could open the door to eventual freedom for others imprisoned for this conviction
