Dr. Fauci Grilled By House Oversight Committee

Daily Mail: Dr Anthony Fauci conceded that Covid measures such as school and business closures may have been too harsh- in a rare admission of mistakes officials made when it came to responding to the pandemic in 2020 and early 2021 (Daily Mail). HotAir: In short, the response to the pandemic – the masks, the social distancing, the separation of families, the 6-foot spacing signs graffitied all across the country, the plexiglass walls erected to wall people off from each other, the closed schools, all of it was bovine excrement. All of it. There wasn’t a lick of science behind any of the policy. It was Anthony Fauci and his team making it up as they went along, and Fauci relishing the power trip in which he found himself (HotAir). Fox News: Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, on Monday denied attempting to suppress the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic began as a result of a lab leak in Wuhan, China, during his opening statement before the House Oversight Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic (Fox News). Townhall: Rep. McCormick plays an interview in which Fauci said institutions should make it hard for people to live their lives to force them to “lose their ideological bulls**t” and get vaccinated (X).

Israel, Hamas Ceasefire Talks Begin Slowing Down
Wall Street Journal: The U.S. continued its push for Israel and Hamas to agree to a cease-fire in Gaza, but the two sides remain at odds over the conditions for ending the fighting. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made calls to two top Israeli decision makers over the weekend, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and war cabinet member Benny Gantz, praising Israel for considering a cease-fire agreement and saying that the onus was now on Hamas to accept a deal. The calls came after President Biden appealed publicly to both sides on Friday to reach an agreement, outlining a path to ending the war that he described as an Israeli proposal, which U.S. officials said was also close to Hamas’s demands. However, Hamas officials told mediators that they haven’t seen an Israeli proposal that matches the potential deal Biden described. While Hamas officials have said the president’s ideas were serious, the group wants a detailed proposal in writing that reflects what Biden described and includes a comprehensive and lasting cease-fire, according to Arab mediators. Hamas officials have told mediators that the most recent Israeli proposal they received described a period of “sustainable calm” only in ambiguous terms. Hamas is concerned that Israel wants to return to fighting after a temporary pause and the release of some hostages. “Israel is not serious about negotiating a cease-fire,” Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas official, told Saudi broadcaster MBC Group (Wall Street Journal).

Analytics Show Majority of Abortions Are For Birth Control, Percentage of Rape Just 0.4%
Life News: For this report, we compiled publicly available data from the eight states that collected and reported 2021 data on women’s reasons for choosing abortion. We selected data from 2021, the year before Dobbs was decided, because many of these states limited abortion after Dobbs. These eight states accounted for approximately 123,000 abortions in 2021, which would have been around 13% of the U.S. total in 2020. Some of these states allow women to report multiple reasons for an abortion or to write in a particular reason, while others ask women to select the top reason or choose from a predetermined list. Additionally, some states provide more precise reasons than others. To develop an estimate of the percent of abortions performed for a given reason, data was combined from each state reporting that particular reason. Overall, common exceptions to abortion limits are estimated to account for less than 5% of all abortions. Rape and incest: 0.4%. Risk to the woman’s life or a major bodily function: 0.3%. Other physical health concerns: 2.2%. Abnormality in the unborn baby: 1.2%. Elective and unspecified reasons: 95.9% (Life News).

Two NYPD Officers Shot by Illegal Immigrant Trying to Avoid Traffic Stop
Fox News: Two New York City police officers were shot early Monday while chasing a suspect, who authorities say is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, while investigating a pattern of robberies involving suspects on scooters. The two officers, part of the 115th Precinct’s public safety unit, attempted to pull over a male suspect driving a scooter the wrong way when the suspect began to flee on foot. During the foot chase, the suspect shot at the two officers, who returned fire. One officer was shot in the stomach area of his bullet-proof vest, while the other officer was shot in the leg. Both officers were rushed to hospitals in stable condition and are expected to recover (Fox News). Charlie Kirk: Everything about this incident is a perfect demonstrations of Joe Biden’s planned demolition of America. Bernardo Raul Castro Mata simply walked up to Eagle Pass, Texas last summer. Instead of turning him around and sending him back to Venezuela, Biden’s border officials let him in as an “asylum seeker” (X).

President Biden Delivers Final Statement as Hunter’s Trial Begins
National Review: First Lady Jill Biden showed up to a Delaware courthouse on Monday to support first son Hunter Biden on the first day of his gun trial. President Joe Biden, meanwhile, issued a statement from his Wilmington beach house expressing support for Hunter but declining to comment on the three federal charges he faces, which stem from a firearm purchase the younger Biden made in 2018 as he battled crack-cocaine addiction. “I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” he said. “Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean.” Special counsel David Weiss and his team of prosecutors are pursuing three felony charges against Hunter for allegedly possessing the firearm while addicted to drugs and for lying about his drug usage on mandated gun-purchase background check forms (National Review).

Hawaii on Verge of Passing Largest Tax Cut in State History
National Review: The Aloha State is poised to enact desperately needed reforms that will ease the tax burden on working families. In a deep-blue bastion where seldom is heard a peep of pushback against tax hikes, Hawaii legislators surprised everybody by unanimously approving a bill that is being heralded as the biggest tax cut in state history. The proposal is almost certain to be signed into law by Governor Josh Green. Under the proposal, a family making the median income of $91,010 could see its taxes fall almost 70 percent by 2031 (National Review). Hawaii Public Radio: One of the biggest pieces of policy lawmakers passed was a measure to cut income taxes by about $5 billion over the next six years. It does this by lowering both the base tax and excess percentage charges in each income bracket within three phases. For example, those who make between $54,000 and $72,000 would get taxed about $3,400, plus about 8% of any income over $54,000. But starting in 2025, that same income bracket’s base tax would be almost $900 less, plus only about 7% of any income over $54,000. That taxation drops even further in the next phase of cuts in 2027 and again in 2029 (Hawaii Public Radio).
