Indivisibles,

Here’s what we all already knew:
Donald Trump is a liar, cheat, and a criminal who will do anything to amass power.

But last week, a court legitimized that knowledge when Trump was convicted on all 34 counts in his hush money trial in New York.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t change a thing: Donald Trump’s MAGA acolytes will continue to follow him regardless of his convictions.

How do we know this?

While it’s not surprising that Trump attacked the trial in a “rambling speech” on Friday, it is more surprising that his Republican colleagues -- the party of “law and order” -- fell in line to question the verdict, the justice system, and the political motivations behind the trial.

Here are a few choice reactions from Republicans in battleground districts:

Marc Molinaro, NY19

Marc Molinaro's statement: This is how we're going to do politics now? Not through spirited debates but by weapoinizing the justice and court system to attack a political rival right before the election. This is a perversion of our justice system. The leading contender for the presidency doesn't belong behind bars. It's disgraceful, unprecedented, and bad for democracy

Kari Lake, AZ Senate

Kari Lake's statement: We just witnessed the most egregious example of election interference and an outright mockery of the rule of law in the 246-year history of our Republic. This entire process right down to the verdict itself has been nothing but a shameful political stunt. This is a non-crime that a Soros-backed DA conjured out of thin air and placed in from of a highly conflicted Democrat judge, all in an effort to imprison Joe Biden's political opponent. The star witness in this case was a convicted perjurer, whose testimony before the court was one of the most embarrassing debacles ever seen in a courtroom. This conviction should be immediately reveresed upon appeal, and this legal tyranny will be summarily rejected by the American people on November 5th.

Bernie Moreno, OH Senate

Bernie Moreno's statement: Today is a dark day for American democracy. Joe Biden and his leftwin allies engaged in election interference to prosecute their top political opponent on bogus charges. This verdict is representative of a banana republic, not a democracy. Sherrod Brown and DC Democrats should be ashamed of this weaponization of our justice system.

Those are just a few MAGA candidates throwing our justice system, and the twelve Americans who voted him guilty, to the wolves for the sake of protecting this fraud -- and we could have easily listed more.

That blind devotion is why, regardless of the verdict, Trump is still the Republican nominee for president.

It is up to every single one of us to use our voices (here are two handy guides, one to talk to the people and another to talk to our representatives) and remind Americans that this conviction is an acknowledgment of what we already knew -- Trump is corrupt. Trump is a cheat. Trump is unfit to be president of the United States.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your weekly to-dos

  1. RSVP for the Majority over MAGA Weekend of Action Kickoff Call next Thursday, June 13 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. The MAGA Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade changed the course of contemporary American politics by making it clear to all of us that MAGA Republicans weren’t just here to make threats, they were going to follow through and rip away our rights. Help us remind people that there’s a better option. For more information on the Weekend of Action itself, check out our Majority over MAGA Weekend of Action (June 21-24) Toolkit, and join the kickoff call to hear specifically about how we’ll be highlighting the ongoing fight for reproductive rights this election year.
  2. Take a look at our new Majority Over MAGA: State to State resource. Neighbor2Neighbor (see below) may only be available in our target districts, but it’s going to take everyone coming together to drive wins in November. This State to State page will be our home for all of the other resources and strategies that will power us to a true democratic trifecta that will codify reproductive freedoms and enact democracy reforms. Check this page to learn about phonebanks, textbanks, postcards, reimbursements, and more that will be the backbone of our 2024 election program.
  3. Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area. We have opened pre-registration for Indivisible Action’s version of our highly effective, community conversation program -- Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize community members (our numbers prove it). Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area and, if it is, sign up today.
  4. Keep reading for more ways to take action…

P.S. In the 24 hours after Trump was convicted of falsifying business records, his campaign raised over $53 million. We know his cult-like following is willing to do whatever it takes to get him back into the White House, but we also know this verdict will hurt Trump amongst non-MAGA voters -- if we can break through the GOP's lies and disinformation.

We have a plan to do just that:

Indivisible will be on the ground in every swing state and battleground framing the narrative of this election in 1:1 conversations with voters. But we can't do this work without your help. If you have a few dollars to spare, click here to pitch in and help us defeat MAGA this November.

 Majority Over MAGA National Phonebank

Join a phone bank June 20 6pm ET/3pm PT

Register for the Project 2024: Majority Over MAGA Weekend of Action National Phonebank for Sherrod Brown on Thursday, July 20 at 6pm ET/3pm PT. This Ohio Senate seat is a must-win if we want to hold onto (and expand) our Senate majority in November, and Sherrod Brown is up against a Trump-backed, MAGA extremist. It is up to us to ensure that Sherrod has the support necessary to win this race, and every single vote is going to matter in a state as tightly contested as Ohio. Help us move one step closer to a true trifecta and elect Sherrod Brown. There will be a training to begin the event if you need a refresher on phonebanking.

Demand Your Members of Congress Call for a Ceasefire and Oppose The Rafah Invasion

**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.**

Last Friday, President Biden addressed the nation, delivering an update on the administration’s work toward a ceasefire in Gaza. The key highlight: “Israel has offered a comprehensive new proposal” of a three-phase ceasefire and pathway toward peace. You can see our full statement from Friday here.

Unfortunately, in the days since, Netanyahu and members of his cabinet have pushed back on the proposal, saying that their conditions for peace “have not changed,” throwing into turmoil the idea that they were any closer to a ceasefire deal -- or that the US had done enough to force leaders at the table to accept a peace agreement.

It is admirable that the Biden administration is continuing its work alongside the international community in negotiating a ceasefire, including pressuring Qatar to bring Hamas to the table, but it is past time that we use our considerable leverage to close a peace deal. We must stop supplying Israel with the offensive weaponry they are using to continue this crisis.

The weekend before Biden’s address, a US-made bomb was used to strike a civilian encampment labeled a safe zone by the Israeli military. Not only are US-made munitions being deployed in Gaza, they are explicitly being used on at least one civilian safe-zone where Palestinians had been forced to relocate. We have a moral and legal responsibility not to assist in the killing of civilians (even if Netanyahu says ‘oops’ after the fact).

President Biden is taking the right steps in putting public pressure on Netanyahu’s government to honestly work toward a ceasefire. But as he said on Friday, “Everyone who wants peace now must raise their voices and let their leaders know.” We need to do our part to pressure our representatives to use every bit of the leverage we have to ensure the safe return of the hostages, a sustained ceasefire, the free flow of desperately needed humanitarian aid, and an end to the incursion into Rafah.

We must pause all offensive weapons shipments to the Israeli military. Call your Member of Congress today.

 Justice Alito and SCOTUS Corruption

After it was reported that Justice Samuel Alito has flown two separate versions of flags that are symbols of support for the January 6th insurrection outside of his home, Alito has stated his refusal to recuse himself from cases involving Trump’s attempted overthrow of our government.

This would be a conflict of interest for any judge, but is especially horrific given our ongoing need for impartial checks and balances as Trump makes continued allusions to refusing to accept the results of an election.

The MAGA Supreme Court doesn’t just have a corruption problem, it has an insurrection problem.

It is past time for Congress to take action, and we need your help to make that happen:

If you have Senate representation, ask your senators to take a stand against Supreme Court corruption. Make sure your senators are being vocal about the need for a thorough investigation into Alito’s corruption. Congress cannot just accept a corrupt court; they must do everything in their power to expose that corruption and root it out.

Take a moment to defend our democracy today.

 Indivisible Civics' Truth Brigade

Truth Brigade Big Truths Call featuring Kristina Wilfore Wed. June 12 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT

Register for Indivisible Civics’ Truth Brigade’s next Big Truths call: Hidden in Plain Sight: Disinfo Attacking Women on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. On this month’s call, we will be featuring special guest Kristina Wilfore, the Director of Innovation and Global projects at Reset.tech and an adjunct professor at the George Washington University Elliot School of International Affairs. Join us for a wonderfully informative session from an incredible expert. For a quick preview from Kristina:

“Weaponizing social media against women leaders with gendered disinformation and hate is one of the most effective mechanisms deployed to erode democratic institutions, divide social groups, exercise foreign influence, and support the growth of transnational far-right movements. Attacks that aim to undermine women leaders reach millions at very low cost, and represent an early warning of democratic backsliding. Fact-checking and de-bunking efforts to expose disinformation are important, but not sufficient to ever stop its spread. For that, a concerted and coordinated whole of society effort is needed to bolster a rights-based approach to information integrity.”
